We drive to Monreale, a very nice town uphill, to visit the famous Cathedral built by the Norman king William II in 1174 and covered inside of spectacular Byzantine gilded mosaics. Return to Palermo and stop at the Cathedral. Visit to the famous open-air Capo market and orientation tour of the city. Time at leisure. Back to the port.

Full Day (maximum 7 hours) Enchanting Greek and Byzantine Heritage

Itinerary: We first visit the wonderful Cathedral of Monreale; next we drive up to Segesta where we will visit the famous and intact Greek Temple from the 5th Century B.C.

We visit first the famous Cathedral of Monreale, decorated with the most beautiful Byzantine mosaics in the world. The whole Basilica is covered of gold and hundreds of scenes depicting the Old and New Testament. After a scenic drive uphill and across the countryside, we will reach Segesta. Visit the beautiful Greek temple from the 5th Century BC, perfectly preserved and in Doric style. On the way back, a little free time in Palermo before heading back to the port.

Jewish Palermo

Then stop at the wooded Nature Reserve of Ficuzza, where you can see the monumental Hunting Palace of King Ferdinand III of Bourbon. Back to the port.

Palermo’s highlights full day shore excursion or private tour

Itinerary: We visit first the Palatine Chapel in the Royal Palace, next the Church of St. John of the Hermits and the Cathedral of Palermo.

Under the Arabs and the Normans, Palermo became one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Several monuments reflect the magnificence of two worlds: East and West. We will visit the 12th century Palatine Chapel, built by the Norman King Roger II, all decorated with Byzantine and Islamic-style mosaics. The Church of St. John of the Hermits built just like a red-domed Mosque. The nearby Cathedral was built by the Norman Bishop Walter of the Mill, but every new ruling dynasty that conquered the island added its own unique style.
